Special Education Funding
Being a single unemployed parent of a child with special needs, I can speak for others who need help advocating for our children. I have no means to pay for summer programs for my son. He attended Judge Baker last year through scholarships and some out of pocket cost. The Judge Baker has no funding available this year so I can't send him. I felt the program allowed him to be himself and come out of his shell. He was at ease with other kids dealing with the same or similar issues. The curriculum was designed to meet each child's needs. The camp takes the subject that each child is struggling with academically and designs an educational curriculum around it. It also teaches the children that everyone is different but to accept the differences in a positive manner. This program is important to these children so that they might continue their progress instead of regressing. Help me push for funding from the government to help our children.
Thanks,Edythe

Special Education Funding
I wish you well in finding a new program for your son. It is sad that through out our state, we are losing funding for our most valuable programs.
funding
Thank You for your concern and support. It means alot to my son and myself
We need more revenue
What we really need is more revenue. This program seems really valuable and that it would mean so much to so many. However, there are SO many programs out there that are closing or excepting less people because they do not have the funds they need from the state. We need to raise more revenue so that we can continue programs like the one discussed in this blog. The one huge way to do that is by advocating for increasing taxes. Yes, I said it, "TAXES". The rumors aren't true. We are not Taxachusetts. We have one of the lowest sales tax rates and our income tax is the same for all regardless of income (5.3%). We cannot expect to continue to fund all the programs we find important unless we have the revenue conversation. As for those who say government is full of wasteful spending, I do not doubt that there is some wasteful spending, but the reality is we really do have less revenue coming in. WE need to do something to support continued success of programs that help the most vulnerable in MA. In the long run, taxpayers that complain about paying higher taxes will benefit as well. The more people are able to get services to increase their skills and education, the more likely they will be able to move off public assistance and become taxpayers themselves (hence less taxpayers money used for welfare and etc.). But, we have to start somewhere....
